Our Beliefs

Many churches today seek spirutual transformation by memorizing purpose statements and getting over-involved in programs, often becoming too busy to accomplish their life purpose.  Here at Golden Acres we've decided that our purpose is our process!  We are seeking to become a Family of Faith designed around a straightforward and strategic process that moves everyone through the stages of spiritual growth.  We believe each aspect of CELEBRATE, CONNECT, AND COMMISSIONED will lead each member, as well as those to come, through the spiritual transformation God desires.

CELEBRATE - CONNECT - COMMISSIONED

Mark 12:30 (NKJV)

'And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your lmind, and with all your strength.'  This is the first commandment.

Psalm 34:1 (NKJV)

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Worship is our response to God for who He is and what He has done, expressed i the things we say and the way we live.  At GABC, we don't go to church to worship; we bring our worship to church.  However, we provode several opportunities for corporate worship where many worshippers come together to celebrate Christ!

CELEBRATE - CONNECT - COMMISSIONED

Mark 12:31 (NKJV)

"And the second, like it, is this:  'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'  There is no other commandment greater than these."

THIS IS WHERE LIFE HAPPENS

Billy Graham

"Church-goers are like coals in a fire.  When they cling together they keep the flame glowing.  When they separate they die out."

At GABC, our strategy for connecting individuals to God and their faith family happens through Biblel Fellowship Groups.  BFG's, as we like to call them, meet before or after every corporate worship opportunity.  It is vitally important that people find true blblical fellowship through this connection.  Recent studies show that 83% of new members are active in the faith five years later if they are involved in a small group; as opposed to only 16% if they are not involved in a small group.

CELEBRATE - CONNECT - COMMISSIONED

Mark 16:15 (NKJV)

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

These words from Jesus are a command, and they demand that we as a Church, and as Christians, be mission-minded.  Missions is not a supplemental part of who we are and what we do, but a fundamental part.  The Great Commission is not the Great Request, nor the Great Recommendation, nor the Great Suggestion.  It is the Great Command.  The command is to "GO into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."  Somebody has observed that the word "go" is two-thirds of the word "God" and one-third of the word "gospel."  We can't serve God without going.  We can't preach the Gospel without going.  This is our call.  This is our command.  We have all been commissioned!

Henry Martyn (1781-1812)

"The Spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions, and the nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we must become."

AT GABC, we state Commissioned in the past tense, because it is a command that Christ already expects every believer to be involved in.  We believe in witnessing so strongly that our Bible Fellowship Groups will actively participate in reachiang people for Jesus across the street and around the world!

Church History

History of Golden Acres Baptist Church

The first church service was held in a chicken house located on 28th Street on May 20, 1945.  With 26 chartered members enthused about the Lord's work, the church prospered and now has over 1,600 members.

At the present time, Golden Acres Baptist Church is the fastest growing church in the Russell Baptist Association.  In 1997, Golden Acres Baptist called Rev. Tommy Fountain, Sr. as Pastor.  Rev. Fountain and the church body assembled a Ministry Team (Staff) which implemented exciting new programs and breathed life into the existing ones that increased the membership by 740 new members in a 4-1/2 year period.

Renovations took place throughout the educational and worship facilities, and modern technology was added into the administrative areas.  Hardware and software was purchased to take care of the administrative and growing needs of the congregation.

Golden Acres Baptist Church added 256 new members in 2001, and was recognized in February, 2002, for being ranked #9 out of 3,200 Baptist Churches in the State of Alabama for 128 Baptisms.

Adjacent property beside and behind the church was purchased for parking and expansion.  Golden Acres was bottle necked at the old location with nowhere near the room needed to expand.  To keep up with consistent and steady church growth - relocating and building was a must.

An overwhelming church vote took place in December, 1999, and the decision was unanimous to proceed with plans to relocate and construct new worship, educational, and recreational facilities located at the corner of Railroad Street and Lakewood Drive.

In September of 2003, with a new Pastor and anxious church body, the congregation of Golden Acres Baptist Church moved into a beautiful 29,000 sq. ft. worship facility with state of the art technology and ministries in place to reach all ages.

Under a newly restructured staff and our present Pastor, Dr. Ray Cummings, the church body has now grown to a present membership of about 1,600.  Praise be to God Almighty!
